Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to presenting Jesus personally to this generation, to mobilizing as many as possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission.
As citizens of God's kingdom, we are called to love, worship, and obey our Lord, to love and serve His Body, the Church, and to present the whole Gospel for the whole person throughout the whole world.
We of Youth With A Mission believe that the Bible is God's inspired and authoritative word, revealing that Jesus Christ is God's son; that people are created in God's image; that He created us to have eternal life through Jesus Christ; that although all people have sinned and come short of God's glory, God has made salvation possible through the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that repentance, faith, love and obedience are fitting responses to God's initiative of grace towards us; that God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth; and that the Holy Spirit's power is demonstrated in and through us for the accomplishment of Christ's last commandment, "…Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)
We are committed to knowing God. It is our desire to encourage an atmosphere where we worship God through service, music, evangelism, prayer and intercession, learning, discipling and loving one another, creativity, and using our God-given gifts and talents.2.) ENGAGE ONE ANOTHER IN COMMUNITY
One of YWAM's values is community. We will express this by facilitating and encouraging an environment of love, acceptance, accountability, openness, mutual discipleship, honesty, and friendship. Some of the ways in which we shall intentionally pursue this is by living in community with one another, eating, worshiping, praying, doing outreach, and playing together. We wish to be an inclusive, tight-knit family, which reaches the community around us, and the nations. This also includes serving, building relationships, and partnering with other YWAM Bases.3.) ENGAGE OUR COMMUNITY (CENTRAL COAST)
We will be an active part of our community by (but not limited to) interceding for the Central Coast, ministering to the poor, building relationships with business owners, meeting some of the practical and spiritual needs of those in our area, and interacting and building friendships with the residents of the Central Coast.4.) ENGAGE THE LOCAL CHURCH
We will be actively involved in the local church of the Central Coast. Each staff member will be required to attend and participate in a local church congregation. We wish to befriend, serve, help equip, pray for, and encourage the local church. We want to be viewed as part of the church and not a para-church organization.5.) ENGAGE THE NATIONS
We are committed to reaching the nations with the gospel! It is our goal to see the nations come to the Central Coast for mutual discipleship. We will also engage the nations through intercession, evangelism, training, and mercy ministry. We want to both send people into the world to reach the lost and go ourselves!* DEFINITION OF "ENGAGE": "To be intimately committed."
YWAM Pismo Beach & Central Coast is a community of believers that exists to disciple one another and to reach the local community through intercession, evangelism, training and mercy ministry. We also reach the nations by going, releasing Christians into missions and bringing the nations to the Central Coast for the purpose of discipleship and evangelism.

Hi, my name is Austin Phillips and I am from Bozeman, Montana. I completed my DTS in the spring of 2013 here in Pismo Beach, California, and more recently completed my SOMD in the spring of 2014. When I completed my DTS in 2013 I thought it was just another chapter in my life, and at the time it was. After my DTS, and through God developing how I viewed life, my desires and passions began to change.
The next six months after my DTS were full of excitement, misdirection, and learning what it really meant to walk with God. Before coming back to California to attend my SOMD, I was actively serving in my home church and helping with their youth group. While serving in the youth group God began unfolding the true desires of my heart, as well as what brought me life. During this time God revealed to me that discipling young adults into freedom, encouraging them to dream bigger, and to chase the desires He has engraved on their hearts brings me true joy. During my SOMD God revealed me the importance of what it means to be a servant leader, as well as what it means to find my joy and trust in Him, while continually engraining His heart for discipleship on mine. Things I enjoy in my spare time would include going on any type of adventure, trying new things, finding new music, and anything outdoors. I really enjoy going with the flow and being busy as possible, which I know sounds like a contradiction in its self, but I make it work somehow.
Aaron grew up in Grand Terrace, California. He graduated from Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas in 2003. After Bible College, he traveled to Heredia, Costa Rica to do his DTS. Sarah is from Calgary, Alberta and also did her DTS in Costa Rica in 2004. For their outreach they went to India and Holland.
In November, 2005 they got married and a few months later they moved to Chile as missionaries. Although their plan was to do long term missions in South America, the Lord put it on their hearts to serve the local church in the Inland Empire of California. They moved to California in the summer of 2007 and became the pastors of a local church in San Bernardino. In November, 2009 their daughter, Talia was born and in April 2012 they welcomed their son, Liam.
After six years of pastoring they felt that God was calling them to move to the central coast to work with YWAM as full time missionaries. Their heart is to raise up leadership, bridge local churches to the mission field and to train and send out students to the nations. Aaron enjoys golfing, surfing and reading. Sarah loves photography, traveling, and good coffee. You can follow Sarah on her blog at sarahortega.com.
We had our first date on St. Patrick's Day 2000. It was supposed to be a small party but nobody else showed up. They got married exactly one year later on St. Patrick's Day 2001. Jocelynn was born July 2004. Gryphon was born March 2007. He had severe medical problems and spent his first month of life in the hospital. The medical problems caused Cerebral Palsy as well as other long term problems. We were really able to see the power of prayer and the love of God during this time. Later that year we felt God calling us to China as missionaries. We have friends that are missionaries to China so we decided to visit China in March 2008. After we returned home we found ourselves missing it and prayed about going into full time missions. We knew that we wanted to join a YWAM base that had a focus on China. That is what lead us to YWAM Pismo Beach. We moved our family to Pismo in January of 2010 to do our DTS. Mike's brother Matt came along to help watch Gryphon. We went to China for our outreach in April. We are now on staff full time and have a heart to lead outreach teams into China on a yearly basis.
Mike enjoys sandwiches, pizza, 4X4ing, camping, hiking, fun, travel, danger, grace, California, freedom, fishing, hot dogs, wood working, monster energy drinks, and cheese. Aleesha enjoys worship, family, friends, Jesus and Travel. Jocelynn enjoys reading, playing, drawing and coloring and her friends. Gryphon enjoys everything, making people laugh, making faces, wrestling with his dad, shooting nerf guns and Glenda's cooking.
