SURFERS DTS 2010
So your a surfer. You’ve got your board, your favorite surf break, and you’ve been on a few surf trips here and there. Maybe your in school trying to figure out what profession bests suits your life and personality. Or maybe you’re already working the 9-5 job but you’ve found yourself living from one swell to the next. We don’t know where you’re at right now, but we want to challenge you with this: lay it all down, pack your surfboard and come join our 2010 Surf Discipleship Training School.
The 2010 Surf DTS is for surfers of any level who want to go deeper with God. We are looking for prospective surfers who have a passion for adventure, challenges, and for traveling the world and going to different nations with the gospel. Our school will focus on discipleship, helping students grow in their relationship with God, equipping them for a missional lifestyle, and exploring how surfing can be used to reach the nations. Keep in mind that this is not a surf camp, but a school to train and equip students.
In addition to the normal DTS schedule, each surfer will have the option to enter local competitions (if the competitions are available), go on weekend surf trips along the local Central Californian coast, and put on a week long surf VBS camp. As a part of YWAM Pismo Beach, the school has the opportunity to engage the local community as well as give back to it.
The Outreach destination will be to the country of Nicaragua. Most tourists overlook the country, usually going to Costa Rica or other surrounding countries. However, Nicaragua is one of the top surfing destinations in the world! With onshore winds almost every day of the year, you are almost guaranteed world class waves. We’ll be able to spend our time in Nicaragua bringing God’s Kingdom, serving the people of Nicaragua, and also have the opportunity to surf these amazing breaks. We are also praying and open to God’s guidance in other outreach possibilities... so get ready to sleep anywhere, eat anything, and grow enormously!

As a surfer within the school you will be living in a community house sharing rooms with the other students and staff, resulting in the chance to mix and learn about new people from all over the world. We value the mutual discipleship that comes from living in community, as well as the friendship, love, and acceptance that grows as we share homes. You will have opportunities to attend churches in the area, meeting and mingling with the people outside of YWAM, and maybe get involved some! There are plenty of surf shops right in downtown Pismo, opening up abundant encounters with local surfers and shop owners to hang with and build friendships with.
In the past, many students have spent their free time hanging out on the one-of-a -kind dunes just on the south side of Pismo. Also many students have gone for overnight beach camping, or built a bonfire... with so many things to do around the central coast, the adventure is right outside your door!
